Not Just a Bed -- a step back in time
"Get-aways" in the mountains are for seclusion ... for privacy ... for tranquility
-- a time to be alone with your closest and to refresh your love ... and yourselves.
We understand that.
If you're looking for a special place, a place for memories you'll forever cherish -- you've found it in The Millsap-Baker Estate --
truely the "Jewel of the Mountains"©.
At The Millsap-Baker Estate, you don't just get a bed and breakfast -- you get personal attention and service that is truly
"a cut above the rest".
Just Imagine ...
Enjoying your breakfast while watching the sun rise from the cliff deck.
Reading a good book while lounging on an antebellum fainting couch in the sitting room.
Sipping a warm cup of coffee on the front porch, then play cards in the Parlor.
Strolling the grounds and the glade with your loved one before enjoying a good movie or video game in the Library.
The west lawn's stone table and benches are perfect for a relaxing picnic before playing yard games or taking in the area's attractions.
In the evening, entertain guests in the dinning hall or on the cliff-overlook deck, and when it's time to retire, there are two Victorian
and one Empire bedrooms to choose from.
Yes, two of the original bedrooms of the Damascus, Virginia Manor House have been completely restored to true Victorian grandeur, a third
to a style consistent with its early 1800s American Empire furnishings, and a fourth as an elegantly modern honeymoon suite of nearly 700 sqft.
The three bedrooms share two lovely full bathrooms, complete with an endless, in-line hot-water supply;
and the honeymoon suite has a private, full bath of its own.
All of this has been remodelled and furnished for your enjoyment, convenience, and overnight get-aways -- an elegant, cozy bed & breakfast
(B&B) stay -- or the perfect place for your special event's "out-of-town" guests or your own destination wedding in the Blue Ridge Mountains
of Virginia (extension of the Great Smokey Mountains of Tennessee & North Carolina), just 12 miles from historic Abingdon, Virginia and from
Interstate 81 (I-81).

- Balcony Room (the "room with an inside balcony")
Facing the north-west, this warm chamber provides a wonderful view of the Front Lawn below. It has a quite
balcony overlooking the front stairs, perfect for reminiscing the day's events or cuddling up with a good book, and a full sized bed* for relaxing
the night away. Furnished with an 8 foot walnut bedroom set (c.1880) and civil war era, marble wash table by the reknowned furniture maker "Mitchell
& Rammelsberg", this seclusion will take you back to a time long forgotten by many -- but not forgotten here.
* new 18" pillow-top matress set (2013) |
- Bay Room
With its 14 foot vaulted bay ceiling; full bay windowed wall; and magnificent view of the estate's main grounds, original
barn (c.1875), love-seat tree swing, and enormous Ginkgo tree, the Bay Room has become a cherished favorite. Graced with an 8 foot custom-queen bed*
and dresser set made by perhaps the greatest 19th century furniture maker, Prudent Mallard (c.1870), and with a rare, high-back Victorian baby crib
(c.1885), this gem is truly special. Facing the south-west, its second floor bay view of the mountain sunset over the tree-covered horizon is truly
inspiring.
* new 18" pillow-top matress set (2013), standard queen width/full length |
- Tower Room
With its second-floor, bay window view of the morning sunrise & cliff-overlook deck, this bedchamber easily has
the most splendid view, if you're a morning person! The room has just been fully redecorated, though not in the grand Victorian style, rather
in a style more consistent with its early 1800s American Empire furniture. This includes a magnificent 1830s Butler's desk and 1820s upholstered
bench and chair. The gothic empire headboard, c.1810, crowns the full queen sized bed -- added comfort for the 'taller' among us.

- Honeymoon Suite
With nearly 700 square feet of newly refinished living space and full, private bath, the Honeymoon Suite is everything you would expect.
The Bedchamber -- A stunning open cathedral of over 400 square feet, crowned with a 12 foot high, solid wood vaulted ceiling
and boasting an ornate, pewter, King-size bed with full canopy; a 6-foot wide, 12-light, wrought iron chandelier; a 5-foot long,
triple-mirrored, vanity; and c.1815 Anthony Quervelle Secretary (furniture maker for Thomas Jefferson) -- absolutely amazing!
The lounge -- A relaxing, spacious dressing room and lounge area, complete with an ornate pewter twin day bed & trundle
(comfortably accommodating an additional 2 guests), refrigerator, electric fireplace, and thin-panel TV w/DVD.
The private bath -- A full bath, completely refinished in natural marble: Italian "Fantastico beige", French "Noir St. Laurent black",
and classic white marble, inlayed in diamond, 3-dimensional patterns on the floor, counter, and bathtub splash.
The white porcelain sink and tub; oil-rubbed bronze fixtures; natural wood cabinet; and inlaid, 12 square foot bath mirror
complete this art deco showpiece.
